October is easily one of my favorite times of year for engagement photos along the North Carolina coast, and Ariana and Brian’s session at Fort Fisher was a perfect example of why. We met up on a sunny Sunday afternoon, just after a nor’easter had blown through the area. The storm left behind cooler temperatures, plenty of wind, and some seriously impressive swells rolling in off the Atlantic.
Despite the windy conditions, we couldn’t have asked for better light. The warm October sunshine gave everything that beautiful golden glow that makes fall engagement sessions at Fort Fisher so good.
We made our usual loop around Fort Fisher, stopping at some of my favorite spots along the way. Between the coastal greenery, sandy paths, and wide-open ocean views, there’s so much variety packed into one location. The wind definitely added a little extra character to the afternoon, but Ariana and Brian rolled with it, and we captured a great mix of fun, natural moments and more intimate portraits as the sun made its way toward the horizon.
One of the things I love most about photographing couples at Fort Fisher is how different the landscape can look depending on the weather, season, and light. This particular afternoon had a little bit of everything, from windswept coastal scenery to warm golden light, with those massive waves providing an incredible backdrop.
I had such a great time exploring Fort Fisher with these two, and I’m already looking forward to seeing them again next month for their intimate wedding in Topsail!
