Fort Fisher has always been one of my favorite locations for engagement sessions. If you’ve followed my work for any length of time, you probably know it’s a place I return to again and again—highly recommended and often requested for its incredible variety of backdrops, distinctive trees, and consistently beautiful light. It truly offers something for every style of photography. On this particular day in early March, we caught a stretch of warming weather, though the ocean temperatures were still hovering around 50°. That contrast created a dense marine layer of fog drifting over the water. Combined with a steady onshore breeze and the setting sun, the conditions felt nothing short of magical. As the fog moved through the trees, it softened and filtered the sunlight, producing stunning rays of light that added depth and drama to every frame. We followed my usual loop, stopping at favorite spots along the way before finishing on the rocks by the water. As the land cooled, the fog crept closer to shore, deepening the moody atmosphere and giving us an unforgettable final stretch of the session. These two are planning a small, intimate wedding this fall at Oak Island, and I can’t wait to see them again and celebrate their special day.
