My wife and I travelled to Rincon, Puerto Rico in April of 2024. I opted to keep this trip light and only bring one film camera, no digital. I brought along my Canon EOS 620 body, with only my 35L, 50L and Fisheye Lenses. I used Kodak Ektar 100 Film, a particularly vibrant film known for its punchy, ultra-saturated colors and fine grain. In hindsight, I would’ve liked to shoot some Portra 400, Ultra-Max 400, or even Kodak Gold, but with only one camera, I thought it would be best to stick to one stock. We stayed in the cozy surf-town of Rincon, a familiar spot for us, situated close to some of the best surf breaks Puerto Rico has to offer. We made a day trip to the famed San Sebastian Waterfall, located in a lush, tropical landscape, perfect for rock jumping and cooling off in the cool, clear waters. A staple for us when staying in Rincon, is the Ola Sunset Cafe. Living up to its name, The Ola Sunset cafe is situated on cliffs overlooking Domes Beach, offering panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, there’s really no better place to watch the sunset. Add to that, the massive mojitos they serve up are mouth watering; pair that with a fresh pollo or carne emapanadilla and you’ll never want to leave. Puerto Rico is a quick getaway for us east coasters, and it shouldn’t be overlooked when you’re looking to escape a cold winter.
